Have you ever wanted something so badly, that you just couldn’t accept that getting it was impossible? Ever craved something so delicious that no matter how many people told you that you were crazy for wanting it, the idea of not having it just felt wrong on every level of your being?
What if you COULD have it? What if it WERE possible? What if the thing you wanted most really did exist and what if there was a way that you could have it? I know, you must be thinking “You’re dreaming, Mel”. But stay with me for a bit.
Allow yourself to dream it
If you’re reading this, then you already have an idea of the type of things I write about; so take a few minutes to go on this journey with me.
Take a moment, right now, to think about the one thing you want most in your life. Maybe it’s something you’ve wanted for years, and have long since convinced yourself that it wasn’t possible for you to have it. Maybe it’s something simple like finally experiencing peaceful relationships with the people around you, because you’re tired of fighting all the time. Maybe it’s finding that one person who will make you feel light and joyful and young again. Maybe it’s a fulfilling job where you feel like you’re making a real difference in the world. Maybe it’s owning your own business and making enough money that you’re not only providing for yourself and your family but you’re able to have the freedom to enjoy all the beauty and fun that life has to offer.
Take some time to think about it. Really imagine all the details of what that would look like for you. Do it right now. I’ll wait. 🙂
Now, imagine that there were no obstacles. What if it WERE possible?
What if you allowed yourself to believe, for just a few minutes?
How would you feel?
If you’re feeling like I am, you’re feeling joy, and excitement, and fun, and passion.
What if the only obstacle between you and accomplishing this thing that you want with every fibre of your being… was YOU?
Deconstructing belief
What if it was your belief that it’s not possible, that was actually making life prove to you that you were right? What if the fact that you’ve been telling yourself that you’re not worthy enough to have what it is that you want, was what was preventing you from receiving all these wonderful things that are being sent your way?
It’s like this: Say you’re looking for your love. But you don’t believe you’re worthy enough of having that love. That for whatever reason, you believe you’re not good looking enough, or kind enough, or just not good enough to deserve someone as amazing as the one you have in mind. So you walk around life, with your head down. You avoid eye contact with people who remotely fit the description of the person you’ve described in your mind. Worse, when someone like that smiles at you, you turn around, thinking they’re smiling at someone else. You don’t believe they could be looking at YOU.
Now, let’s work on changing that belief.
What if you started to remember that you are a part of Source? Whether you call that God, or any other name doesn’t matter. What if you remembered that you are perfect; that you are wonderful, that you are funny, and kind, and smart? What if you believed, you KNEW, that nothing ever goes wrong in life, and that it was all part of your journey to becoming who you are today? What if you knew that everything that you’ve lived has made you even stronger, smarter and more amazing?
What if you knew your own value?
What if you were suddenly awake, and decided to look up as you walked around this life, and look at people when you walked by them; really looked at them.
What if you remembered all the wonderful things about you? What if you remembered what makes you the awesome person that you are? And what if you decided that you could use your strengths to make someone’s day a little better?
How does this feel, compared to the first scenario? Much better, doesn’t it?
Building new beliefs
So now, say that you’ve been practicing this “feeling good about yourself” thing for a while. And now you want to focus on that one thing you really want, that you’ve been wanting for a long time. Maybe you don’t see how you could possibly achieve it. But what if you used this newly established belief to power yourself through? Then you can start working on new beliefs like “Anything is possible” or “I can do this” or “Wellbeing abounds” or “Abundance is the dominant nature of this Universe”.
All of these statements are true… if you only let yourself believe them.
You know all these children’s books and movies that focus on feeding the awe and wonder that children have, especially at Christmas? Think of the Polar Express, where the story is about believing in the magic of Christmas. Who ever said we had to stop believing when we became adults? Who ever said being an adult meant being serious, and not having so much fun anymore?
Let yourself believe again. This Universe really IS magical. Maybe not in the same sense that we thought when we were children, but if you let yourself believe, you will begin to see it in your own everyday life. It starts small, like a smile or a random act of kindness. But the more you begin to open your eyes to the possibilities of this life, the more you will believe that anything really IS possible. You really CAN be, or have or do anything that you want.
You just have to let yourself believe.
